With sunshine-filled classrooms, sweeping views of the Hudson River, and stimulating play spaces both indoors and outdoors, Riverview Nursery School is a safe and nurturing environment where our teachers impart a love for learning and promote pro-social behavior to your child.

OUR SUNNY CLASSROOMS

Classroom Miss Diane

Located inside the Living Christ Church in South Nyack since 1991, Riverview Nursery School has 5 bright, sparkling clean, clutter-free classrooms that accommodate our half-day and full-day programs. Each classroom is appropriately appointed with developmental learning stations that support our teaching philosophy.  We provide an environment where learning involves all the senses. Through play, children practice and master new skills, gain confidence and continue the joyful discovery of learning. Our school library offers our instructors an endless resource of children's literature to support theme weeks and daily circle time activities. Other educational manipulative and learning games further support our educational goals and are rotated in and out of the classrooms to keep children engaged.

INDOOR AND OUTDOOR PLAY SPACES

Our Big Room and Playground offer opportunities to develop motor skills.  Running, jumping, crawling, climbing, etc. help strengthen the core muscles and increase large muscle control.

The playground features climbing structures, a wooden boat, sandbox, and our very Green House is used throughout the year, including winter days. The indoor Big Room is otherwise one of the children’s favorite school spaces when it's too wet or cold for outdoor play. It features  basketball, bikes, scooters, climbing structures and unlimited opportunities for fun.

For our two-year olds we sometimes reserve playground time until secure in school environment.  We find that our youngest students form a better perception of school space and are more secure when they remain within the building.  They enjoy very active play in the Big Room with bike riding, running, jumping, climbing, and ball play.

Our philosophy about active play is in accordance with the regulations set forth by NYS Office and Children and Family Services and that of the National Association for Sport and Physical Activity. With grant money from NYS Department of Health some of our purchases have included sturdy bikes, obstacle course equipment, all-purpose balls and a climbing tunnel.

THE GREENHOUSE

Through a special grant and the generous help of our Riverview families we are so proud to offer our students the opportunity to garden in our very own Green House. Throughout the school year our children have the opportunity to grow a variety of plants, including harvesting their own vegetables which aligns with our Healthy Hearts Program.

Our RIVERVIEW GREEN HOUSE

Our RIVERVIEW GREEN HOUSE

Riverview is a place where I know I am doing the very best for my kids. The small classes keep the teachers so well connected with the kids and let them really understand each child individually. Not to mention how truly wonderful each teacher is. I leave there every morning with a smile on my face knowing they are in the very best of hands.

Miss Carmela Green House
Each time we go into our green house, I look forward to seeing the chidren’s reaction. They look into those little pots of dirt with such wonderment. It’s frequent reminder of why I love to teach her a Riverview.
